WKCTC - Emerging Technology Center

Dr. Barbara Veazey spoke to the club today about the new Emerging Technology Center at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. The Emerging Technology Center is a 75,000 square foot facility funded through state appropriations and private donations. The center will include industrial technology training, robotics, rapid prototyping, metrology and a Haas technical Educational center. Engineering technology and information technology will also be a part of the center's programming.

The center is to serve as the gateway for business and industry training. Much consideration has been given to determine how to best serve existing industry while also recruiting new industry to our region. Along with the National Coalition for Advanced Technology, WKCTC has carefully studied what is needed at the center and who in the way of faculty and staff are key participants in the center's success.

Ground breaking for the facility will take place in May or June of this year. The center is expected to open Spring 2010.

ROTARY CLUB DONATES $50,000 TO THE NEW EMERGING TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN HONOR OF MEREDITH AND BILL SCHROEDER

The Club's Rotary Education Assistance Program (REAP) was started in 1988. The annual antique quilt show funds REAP. Show objectives are to raise money to support educational assistance and support the AQS activities with its annual show.

Over the last twenty years, REAP has raised nearly $800,000 to provide financial assistance to 400 - 500 students who might not have had the opportunity to attend college otherwise. A portion of these funds have also gone to community programs. The UK College of Engineering in Paducah received $100,000 from the program. Other recipients include the Challenger Learning Center, Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center and the Paducah Symphony Orchestra in support of in-school programs. Today, a donation of $50,000 was made to WKCTC's Emerging Technology Center in the name of Bill and Meredith Schroeder who have been so dedicated to helping the Paducah Rotary Club help others and for their dedicated support of our community with their quilt show efforts.
