"Coping with Holiday Stress"

While the holidays are thought to be the most joyous time of the year, it can also be the most stressful for many reasons. Unrealistic expectations, anxiety, financial constraints and family tensions can all lead to an extra helping of stress, which could cause potentially serious health issues. Psychiatrist Christopher Adams and Dana Ryder of the Lourdes Behavioral Health Program said there are a number of ways to cope when the Grinch threatens to steal away your holiday spirit.

Breathe! Take a deep breath, or several.

Keep expectations manageable

Organize your time

Prioritize important activities

Acknowledge your feelings

Communicate openly and honestly

Live in the moment. Each season can be enjoyed in its own way

Do something for someone else. Volunteer

Spend time with supportive and caring people

Don't "over celebrate" with food or drink

And most importantly, Lighten up! Don't take yourself so seriously. Laugh more.

Lourdes offers emergency mental health evaluations from 7:30 am until midnight each day.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Rotary Board of Directors will meet briefly next Wednesday, Dec. 16th immediately following the Club meeting to discuss one item.

With temperatures dropping hourly and brisk winds providing a frosty wind chill factor, we are assured Bill Dyer is smiling down upon the annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing today. Head Ding-a-ling Hal Sullivan reported the day was going very well as pity for freezing Rotarians really opens up those wallets and purse strings. Thanks to Ron Stonecipher, our bell ringers wore orange Tennessee Valley Towing knit caps in memory of Bill, who was the longtime chair of the Club's day at the kettles. Checks made to Salvation Army may still be donated by dropping them by Hillard Lyons 2929 Broadway. But hurray so Hal can turn in the money.

There will NO club meeting on Wednesday, December 23rd or Wednesday, December 30th.
