ROTARY CLUB OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
Bright, young Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar Brandi Townsend praised Rotary for giving her an experience of a lifetime and helping her make a profound difference in the lives of disadvantaged elementary students in Concepcion, Chile last year. While studying, Brandi joined forces with her host club and another U.S. Ambassadorial Scholar from Arizona to provide a school with a much-needed library. The Paducah Club along with the Clubs in Murray and Shelbyville, as well as a District Grant, funded $2,020 for the library. Other non-Rotary resources funded a total of $3,900 to buy books, maps, DVDS, two computers and other needed equipment for a renovated space at the school to house the library. Brandi also taught English to 1st and 2nd graders at the school, in addition to participating in a number of Rotary activities and giving speeches about Kentucky and Tennessee to the locals. She was grateful to learn:
She ended her presentation with a quote
by Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
And I'm sure the students and Rotarians Brandi met in Chile would
agree she had achieved that goal. Brandi is a graduate of Murray State
and will continue her doctoral studies in Latin American history at
the University of Maryland.
