"The Ohio Valley Conference"

OVC Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher says his job involves three parts: "to serve, to regulate and to market." The first two are arguably easier to accomplish than the third in the world of competitive collegiate sports vying for national exposure, but Dr. Steinbrecher has made great strides in bringing more awareness to the OVC schools.

The OVC is comprised of 12 universities in five states, including nearby Murray State University, and is the 8th oldest conference in the nation. The OVC boasts 2 NCAA Football Championships, along with numerous champions and olympians in rifle, cross country, golf, soccer and volleyball. All told, the OVC schools compete in 18 sports.

Dr. Steinbrecher has steadily increased corporate sponsorship and national television exposure for the OVC teams, including a five year commitment with ESPNU, a 24 hour sports channel for college sports. He also initiated a live webstreaming site for for viewing OVC sports called OVCSports.TV.

He is most excited about the exposure the OVC will garner from hosting the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four in Nashville. The event is expected to bring up to a $30 million economic impact to the area.

Paducah also reaps economic benefits from hosting the OVC baseball tournament each May. The five day event brings 16 teams to town to compete for the OVC title.
