ROTARY CLUB OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
"Preparation today for the jobs of
the future," is the driving force behind the soon to opened Emerging
Technology Center on the WKCTS campus, said President and fellow
Rotarian Dr. Barbara Veazey. When it opens for the spring semester,
the 73,000 square foot facility will house customized workforce training
for industries, conference facilities, advanced certification programs,
engineering research and even a Cyber Café, which will be the college's
first full-service food area for students and on campus conferences.
The building and the concept dove tails nicely with the existing U.K. Engineering School on campus, and will feature the Fred Paxton Engineering Research wing. Paxton was the leader of bringing the engineering school to fruition. Bill and Meredith Schroeder will also be honored with a conference center wing to the building, as an acknowledgment of Rotary's $50,000 donation to the project. Dr. Veazey said the Emerging Technology Center is crucial to having a trained, highly skilled workforce, which is needed to recruit industry to the area that will provide good paying jobs. The college also operates a Skilled Craft Training Center in Graves County, which provides training in welding, HVAC and other crafts. Although the Emerging Technology Center will open in January, a dedication and open house for the community will be held in March next year.

Part of a continuing program, the Rotary Club hopes to help develop literacy and language skills by providing tools for learning. Deliveries are occurring during October at each school. The dictionaries are the students to keep after 3rd grade. Dictionaries are also provided to each teacher for lesson planning. Over 4,200 dictionaries have been distributed in our 5 years of involvement.
