Eradicating
Polio - In
1985, Rotary International launched a campaign, PolioPlus,
to eradicate Polio and other infectious diseases throughout
the world by 2005, Rotary's 100th Anniversary. Paducah
Rotarians accepted the challenge to raise $15,000 and
by 1988 surpassed this challenge by raising $47,000.
To date $438 million has been invested by Rotary International,
and Polio has decreased 99% throughout the world.
Raising
Funds for Rotary Education Assistance Program (R.E.A.P.) -
R.E.A.P. is a unique program which provides loans and grants
to those students in Paducah and McCracken County who do not
qualify for other financial aid. Funds are raised by Rotarian
donations, memorial gifts, and the proceeds from the annual
Rotary Antique Quilt Show. In 1989, Paducah Rotary
began holding this show in conjuction with the annual American
Quilters' Society Quilt Show. Since 1989, more than $556,000
has been invested in REAP scholarships.
Providing
Community Support -
Since 1915, Paducah Rotarians have given an unbelievable amount
of financial support to this community and to the world. Organizations
which have been recipients of Rotary charity and community
serivce donations are: Boy/Girl Scouts, Family Serivces, St.
Nicholas Clinic, Paducah Day Nursery, UK/PCC Engineering School,
Challenger Learning Center, 4-H, Maiden Alley Cinema, River
Heritage Museum, and others.
